In this workshop Lynne and Tony will lead you on a Southwestern photographic adventure that includes Wild Horses, Bison, a Historic Ghost Town, and other Wildlife, all set in a variety of breathtaking landscapes. They will share their tips for capturing the action of free-roaming horses in the wild and in natural settings, and the techniques that Tony used for his well-known Hooves and Dust series. In addition, Tony will present an overview / refresher of image capture, post-processing, color management, and output. Included are two intensive post-production sessions in which Tony will guide you through the use of Lightroom, step by step, to help you realize the full potential of your photographs. It is recommended that each participant bring their personal notebook computer (MAC or WIN) and install Adobe Photoshop Lightroom (a free fully functional 30-day trial may be used).

Locations:
Wild Horses of Placitas
The wild horses of Placitas roam the rolling foothills of the Sandia Mountains. Their close proximity to civilization provides incredible opportunity to accompany them on their daily rituals. Sage dotted mesas under the famous New Mexico sky make a dramatic backdrop for these beautiful bands of paints, grays, blacks and bay. Trailing the spirited stallions and their harems is a unique experience.

Cimarron Sky-Dog Reserve
Cimarron Sky-Dog Reserve’s summer location is on 420 acres of rolling grassland and forest in Watrous, NM. Their goals include providing “a wild land reserve for displaced, un-adoptable and rejected wild horses whose only other alternatives would be a lifetime of confinement or perhaps even slaughter.” There are amazing views from the mesa top and a lush valley with rain-fed ponds where the mustangs come to drink and swim. The ranch and surrounding areas also provide habitat to herds of elk, antelope, coyotes and mountain lions.

Wind River Ranch
A gorgeous 4500-acre ranch where the plains meet the mountains near Watrous, New Mexico. The mission of Wind River Ranch is to conserve the wild landscapes through ecological restoration, research, and education. This is a truly wonderful resource for photographing bison, antelope, a historic ghost town, the Mora River, and incredible vistas.
